For over ten years, the Conservatoire Botanique National du Bassin Parisien (CBNBP) and the County Council of Val d’Oise have worked together to develop knowledge about the flora of the region of Val d’Oise, northern France, and together have produced the first synthesis of this heritage, which is both rich and threatened. Nearly 215,000 bibliographic and field data points, spread over nearly four centuries, have been inspected to bring the species count of wild flora in the department to a total of 1,321 species, summing over all periods. Of these, 209 species have not been seen since 2000 and can be considered extinct, while another 150 are more or less threatened in the short term.

Although it was made with great scientific rigor, the book is not reserved exclusively for experienced botanists, but is also aimed at environmental stakeholders such as local authorities or the general public wishing to familiarize themselves with the recognition and preservation of this valuable floristic heritage.

Depuis plus de dix ans, le Conservatoire Botanique National du Bassin Parisien (CBNBP) et le Conseil départemental du Val d’Oise collaborent au développement des connaissances floristiques sur le territoire valdoisien afin de produire la première synthèse de ce patrimoine, à la fois riche et menacé. Près de 215 000 données bibliographiques et de terrain, étalées sur près de quatre siècles, ont été exploitées pour porter la flore sauvage du département à un total de 1321 espèces, toutes périodes confondues. Parmi elles, 209 espèces n’ont pas été revues depuis 2000 et peuvent être considérées comme disparues, tandis que 150 sont menacées à plus ou moins court terme.

Même s’il a été réalisé avec une grande rigueur scientifique, l’ouvrage n’est pas pour autant réservé aux botanistes confirmés, puisqu’il s’adresse aussi bien aux acteurs de l’environnement qu’aux collectivités territoriales ou au grand public souhaitant se familiariser à la reconnaissance et à la préservation d’un patrimoine floristique précieux.
