Chilika is a large, shallow coastal wetland in Asia and is the largest brackish water lake in Asia. It qualifies as a wetland of international importance for several reasons. It is a biodiversity hotspot with over 540 vertebrate species, and shelters a number of endangered species listed in the IUCN Red Data Book. The Bird Atlas of Chilika gives an overview of the bird species occurring in the area.
